"You've been a good apprentice to me, a part of my teaching, my manner of life, direction, faith, steadiness, love, patience." - 2Timothy 3:10 (MSG).
You would agree with me that an apprentice is one that is legally bound through indenture to a Master. Just like a young man who decides to learn trading from a skilled tradesman. We have seen situations where a person that has completed apprenticeship still remain incompetent or immature; who are we to blame, the master or the apprentice?
"He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven." - Hebrew 7:26 (NLT).
The book of Hebrew testified to the character of our master as One worthy of being a master, mostly called "Rabbi" - a teacher, Halleluya! No wonder Pilate said "... I find no guilt in this man" - Luke 23:4.
Just like Jesus, our master, we are expected to be like Him, Luke said; "The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher." - Luke 6:40 (NIV).
Paul was able to commend Timothy for being a good and competent apprentice. Becoming like the master may be more tasking than knowing the master. A good apprentice must be able to learn from the master, trust the master, obey the master and do the work as the master instructs.
Hezekiah was able to add extra fifteen years to his age by being a good apprentice. Can you boldly say it like him; "Remember, O GOD, who I am, what I’ve done! I’ve lived an honest life before you, My heart’s been true and steady, I’ve lived to please you; lived for your approval..." - 2King 20: 2-3 (MSG). You can become a good, matured and competent apprentice by painstakingly doing what the master instructs with diligence and obedience.
Prayer: Lord, Jesus, help me to serve You wholeheartedly, doing what You instruct me to do in all the days of my life.
